Links of the Week (Week #4, 2006)
- A P R E S S . C O M - A few free technical e-books including: A Programmer's Introduction to PHP 4.0, Programming VB .NET: A Guide For Experienced Programmers, Google, Amazon, and Beyond: Creating and Consuming Web Services, and a few more.
- Axbo Alarm Clock - I have a lot of trouble waking up in the mornings. Mostly that has to do with the fact that I can't sleep at night. I'm convened that my body wants to be on a 28 hour clock. This alarm clock might help but at $244 I don't think I'll find out and time soon.
- Model World - Article about a guy that takes aerial photos with a special camera setup that makes it look like an amazingly detailed model.
- $6000 to Anyone Who Can Dual Boot OSX and Windows XP on New Intel-Macs - Anyone up for the challenge? I'd try it if I owned a Mac.
- Hack Attack: Mouse-less Firefox - Lifehacker - I've always been impressed by people that can memorize shortcut keys. I can't even remember if copy and paste is under File or Edit. Some useful keyboard shortcuts for Firefox for those that are able.
- Hacknot - The A to Z of Programmer Predilictions - What kind of programmer are you? I've yet to decide for myself. Perhaps "Not-Invented-Here Nick" or "Toolsmith Trevor"?
- Navahoax - A very long and some what graphic article about a celebrated Native American memoirists who turns out to really be a struggling white writer of gay erotica.
- NASA - SuitSat - Not sure what the point is exactly but some Russian partners in the ISS program turn old spacesuits into a satellite.
- NASA's Solar System Exploration: Multimedia: Our Top 10 - Top 10 NASA images.
- Radified Guide to Norton Ghost - A Tutorial on How to Create & Restore Ghost Images - If you've every needed to install a new hard drive while retaining your old operating system and files (in otherwords your too lasy to reinstall everything) you know what a pain it is. I've tried a few times using the software that is shipped with the HDs (Seagate DiscWizard and Maxtor MaxBlast are two examples I can recall) but they always fail or just plain don't work. If you really want to copy the hard drive use Norton Ghost.
- SmartFTP - FTP Client - Version 2.0 of my favorite FTP client has been released. It is free for personal use so go for it!
- totse.com | What to do when they ask for your Social Security Number - How often do you give out your SSN? Probably very often. Did you know that not only was the SSN not intended to be a citizen ID number when it was introduced in 1935 but the public was reassured that it's use would be limited strictly to providing for the social security of the elderly. Well, these days we use the
mark of the beastour SSNs for just about everything.
